Last updated: 26 October 2026

Quick Answer: Virtual CFO services in Delhi give SMEs part-time CFO work, monthly reporting, budgets, cash flow and controls, from dedicated practices or full-service firms. Among the full-service firms, HSAG Consulting runs management reporting, budgeting, working capital and internal controls engagements. The cost turns on the scope, the state of the books and how many statutory filings the provider carries.

A virtual CFO is an outsourced finance professional who does the work of a chief financial officer part time, under a written engagement. For most Delhi SMEs it is a management choice, because only listed companies and public companies with paid-up share capital of ₹10 crore or more must appoint a whole-time CFO.

What does a virtual CFO do for a Delhi SME each month?

A virtual CFO turns closed books into decisions: a monthly reporting pack, a budget revised through the year, a cash view that looks weeks ahead and controls that keep the numbers reliable. Work runs on a monthly rhythm, with a review meeting after each close.

  • Management reporting: a monthly pack with variance analysis and cash flow tracking.
  • Budgeting and forecasting: an annual budget and a rolling cash forecast.
  • Working capital: receivables, payables and inventory together.
  • Profitability and cost management: product and client margins.
  • Internal controls: approval limits, reconciliation routines and accounting policies.

Which firms offer virtual CFO services in Delhi NCR?

Two kinds of firm offer virtual CFO services in Delhi NCR: full-service firms that run CFO work alongside accounting, tax and company law filings, and dedicated virtual CFO practices supplying an on-demand CFO on retainer.

What do dedicated virtual CFO practices offer?

CFO Bridge, a dedicated practice, says on its virtual CFO services page (October 2026) that it offers on-demand veteran CFOs on monthly retainer who work closely with the in-house finance team, and it runs a Delhi NCR location page. How other providers differ, and what to ask before signing, is set out in a comparison of alternatives to CFO Bridge.

How do virtual CFO firms in Delhi compare?

Virtual CFO firms in Delhi differ most on who keeps the books. 21DEGREES keeps them inside its virtual CFO engagement, while Access CFO's virtual CFO page says the client's existing accountant or CA continues to handle bookkeeping and statutory filings; the firm lists compliance as a separate module. Each row comes only from that firm's own website and is not a ranking.

The first row is a founder-led, full-service firm with a Delhi office and one team of chartered accountants, company secretaries, consultants and legal advisors. Its virtual CFO advisory runs alongside bookkeeping, direct and indirect tax work and company secretarial filings.

What drives the cost of virtual CFO services in Delhi?

Four things drive the cost: the scope in the engagement letter, the state of the books on day one, the statutory filings the provider carries, and how often the CFO meets management. Clearing overdue reconciliations or returns adds work before the monthly cycle starts.

CFO Bridge's page (October 2026) says fees vary with the size and complexity of the business, the level of service and the CFO's experience, as monthly retainers or project-based engagements. An SME comparing outsourced CFO services from Delhi firms should ask for the clean-up and the monthly cycle as separate lines.

When does a Delhi SME need a virtual CFO?

A Delhi SME usually needs a virtual CFO once outsiders start asking for forward numbers: a bank renewal or new credit line that wants projections, a fund-raise, or a buyer's due diligence. Two internal signs point the same way: books that close weeks after month end, and growth beyond what one accountant can handle.

The virtual CFO also plans compliance as a cash problem, from GST registration and returns to TDS and ROC filings, with the due dates on the compliance calendar for Indian companies.

Where does company law draw the line?

Section 203 of the Companies Act, 2013 requires every prescribed class of company to have whole-time key managerial personnel, including a Chief Financial Officer. Rule 8 names listed companies and public companies with ₹10 crore or more of paid-up capital as that class.

A private limited company outside that class has no statutory CFO duty. A company inside it cannot book a virtual CFO in place of the whole-time appointment, and it files a return of the appointment with the Registrar within thirty days under section 170(2).

How should a Delhi SME start the first month?

A Delhi SME should hand over system access, a fixed closing date and a written scope before the first close, because every later report builds on them. Five steps cover it, and the first MIS pack follows the first closed month.

  1. Grant system access: accounting software, bank statements and the last filed returns.
  2. Fix one closing date: the same day each month.
  3. Hand over the compliance calendar: every registration, return date and responsible officer.
  4. Agree the pack and the meetings: the statements, the cash flow format and the monthly review date.
  5. Put the scope in writing: the monthly cycle, the separate projects and who signs what.

Mistakes to avoid when choosing a virtual CFO in Delhi

A Delhi SME avoids the costliest first-year errors by settling three points in the engagement letter before any work starts. They are whether the monthly cycle goes beyond bookkeeping, whether the company in fact needs a whole-time CFO, and whether the chosen firm also audits its accounts.

  • Treating the engagement as bookkeeping: an SME that blurs the two pays for clerical hours and receives no MIS pack.
  • Relying on a virtual CFO where the law needs a whole-time one: a listed company, or a public company with ₹10 crore or more paid-up capital, risks the section 203(5) penalty of ₹5 lakh on the company.
  • Engaging the statutory auditor as virtual CFO: section 144 bars an auditor from providing accounting and bookkeeping, outsourced financial services or management services to the company, directly or indirectly.

What happens after the first quarter of the engagement?

After the first quarter the engagement settles into a monthly close, a monthly review and a quarterly reforecast against the budget. Once the books are clean, the SME can narrow the work to a monthly review, recorded in the engagement letter.

Bookkeeping and payroll accounting can sit under an accounting and bookkeeping engagement, and valuations or due diligence run as projects with an M&A advisory team. At year end the virtual CFO prepares the schedules the statutory auditor asks for; the audit report itself is signed by a chartered accountant in practice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a virtual CFO one of the company's key managerial personnel?
Not unless the company appoints that person to the post. Section 2(51) of the Companies Act, 2013 lists the Chief Financial Officer among key managerial personnel, so an outside finance professional doing CFO-level work under an engagement holds no KMP office.
Can a virtual CFO for small business approve a bank loan?
Not on its own authority. Section 179(3) of the Companies Act, 2013 reserves borrowing money, investing the company's funds, granting loans, standing surety and giving security for loans to the Board, by resolution at a Board meeting. The Board may delegate those powers only to a committee of directors, the managing director, the manager or another principal officer.
Does a virtual CFO have to be a chartered accountant?
The Companies Act, 2013 does not require it. Section 2(19) defines a Chief Financial Officer only as a person appointed as the Chief Financial Officer of a company, and rule 8 adds no qualification. Signing a statutory audit report or a CA certificate is separate work that needs a chartered accountant in practice.
Which form records a CFO appointment with the Registrar?
Form DIR-12, which rule 18 of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules, 2014 prescribes for the return under section 170(2). The Ministry of Corporate Affairs instruction kit says it is filed within 30 days of an appointment, a cessation or a change in designation.
Can a virtual CFO be penalised for a company's default?
It can be. Section 2(60)(iv) of the Companies Act, 2013 covers a person charged, under the Board's or a KMP's immediate authority, with maintaining, filing or distributing accounts or records. That person is an officer who is in default if they authorise, actively join in, knowingly permit or knowingly fail to take active steps to prevent a default.
Does a virtual CFO have to report a fraud it finds?
The statutory duty sits elsewhere. Section 143(12) of the Companies Act, 2013 requires the company's auditor to report a suspected fraud against the company by its officers or employees. Section 143(14) extends that duty to the cost auditor and to the company secretary in practice doing a secretarial audit. The engagement letter should set the virtual CFO's escalation route.
